I was trying to lay down some guitar, the tone out of my amp was great. I have tried running the guitar through a pedal straight into the M-Audio interface and also from the amp into it, both times the tone of the guitar sounds really staticky/dirty...especially on higher notes. Does anyone know why this is?
I have a parker fly --> (either the Metal Zone Pedal and/or my B-52 Head) --> M-Audio Fast Track -->Dell C610 Laptop
Im just looking for a real clean tone but I am recording heavy metal so I need a deep sounding effect.

Man I have like a million SM58s haha, yeah I wasn't too happy w/
Man I have like a million SM58s haha, yeah I wasn't too happy w/ the quality when runing a mic to the amp speaker so I thought I would do a direct recording (Maybe because I should have used an SM57), where can I find an amptitude? I have cubase and soundforge is there a vst plugin or a standalone?

When you record direct like that you're missing a very important part of the tone equation: The Amp (and it's speakers). I've got a metal zone and I know exactly what you mean when describing it's sound when recorded direct. You need to get the speakers of the amp in on the equation.
One way to work around this that I've used with moderately satisfying results is to record it direct with the pedal, then I ran it through a slightly overdriven amp in Amplitube. This may not be an option for you though.
The best solution would be to mic the amp. Get an SM57 if you don't have one already.
