Okay, so I've used my laptop and desktop separately for recording but I'm wondering if there's any benefit to chaining them both together. The laptop is an HP DV6 running Win7 64, Intel Core2 Duo T6600 @ 2.20 GHz, 7200 RPM SATA drive, 4 GB RAM. The desktop is a Dell Dimension 2400 running XP Pro, Version 2002 Service Pack 3, Pentium 4 @ 2.20 GHz, only 768 RAM. I use Line 6 Gearbox Gold with the Toneport DI for effects. I use Ableton Live 7.0.3 for drum tracks, keys and other nonsense. I use Adobe Audition 3 to record and mix. And sometimes I can get the cracked version of Guitar Rig to work. I haven't done any huge projects on either, just demos and file swapping online. I'm still pretty green when it comes to this stuff.

So is there a way to chain them together and use them simultaneously? Is there any benefit to this, as in would it run faster or be able to do more as a whole? Ableton seems to like the desktop better than the laptop but I think the lack of RAM limits how much it can do all at once, the CPU usage meter goes apesh*t if I'm running too many effects and too many tracks. If there IS a benefit to using both together, how would I do that? Ethernet hub? Or should I just sell it all and get a MAC and run Pro Tools like everyone else?
