Well...two ways you could go with Apogee products..AD8000(I reccomend the SE version of course!!) or the new AD16!!
Or if you only need two channels of input you could go with the Trak2!!
Been doing some testing with TDIF and those units and they sound great!! Just my $.02 worth

Thanks - I live in a 2 channel world along with a Millennia Media HV-3B Mic Pre and 2 KM-183's. I expect the PSX-100 or Rosetta would give better dynamics and have a better analog input than the Tascam?? (I've recorded analog from my high-end rig to the Tascam, there are definate losses in transparency and low level detail that I don't get when recording direct to a Nak CR7E cassette machine!)
I'm just asking anyone with experience with this DAT if my expectations would be realised - as it's not easy to get a demo situated here in the heart of the Highlands in Scotland.

Just to say my previous post is not 'having a go' at the DA-45HR, it's a great deck and good value for money. I just wanna make the good even better.

You're comparing analog with digital. Analog is higher resolution than digital, so when going to digital you're going to notice a loss of detail if you're listening carefully. On the other hand digital has no tape hiss, no wow/flutter problems, no generational loss.

The Apogee converters will be a help. I use Neumann mics, Pendulum pre, Apogee PSX100--it's the best sound on digital I've gotten so far.
I still prefer Apogees to Lucid having A/Bed them, but the Lucid is very good, you might prefer it. The Apogee sounds just a bit darker, and that makes it sound smoother. I can't tell if it's just an EQ curve difference or it there's a quality difference between the two converters. My favorite combo was the the Apogee on the A/D and the Lucid on the D/A, they seemed to balance each other out--very clear and warm.

I didn't realise the Rosetta lacked a reference clock..thanks. Many have recommended the PSX-100 though and its good to get your confirmation. The A-D section I'm interested in, mostly to get the best from the mics & mic pre. My last recording was at a jazz festival & I took the deck to the mastering studio (as they didn't have a double speed DAT), downloaded digitally to Sadie.. with very pleasing results.
