Hi guys,
During mixdown I sometimes like to send a vocal track out of my DAW into my comp then straight back in on another track. However, I have noticed that the newly recorded vocal arrives a little late than the original because it has to travel out of the system into the comp then back in.
Was wondering what people's techniques are in getting it back to the exact position. Simply snapping it to the original doesnt work because the new track starts recording as soon as you hit record (makes sense?).
cheers,
Sammyg

Hi Reggie,
im running nuendo, apogee and rme. Using a certain spot in a phrase makes sense but can sometimes be difficult because the new tracks WAV changes in amplitude, etc, hard to get spot on at times.
However, after posting this I discovered that Nuendo can send out a "ping" signal to your outboard and back in, it measuers the latency during this process. You can configure Nuendo to compensate by that amount whenever you decide to use your outboard. Handy!!

Just find the beginning of a phrase or something that sticks out in both waveforms, and scoot the recorded compressed track up a little until it matches up with the original. No biggy. What kinda DAW are we talking about?
