I have a firepod 10 connected through firewire to my pc (win xp).
The problem is that when turn on the computer and firepod everything works perfectly and then always out of nowhere the sound vanishes. That can happen eg. when listening to music/watching a movie/recording music.
Then if I switch off the Fp and then back on everything works again... until... sometime I may take a minute... sometimes longer.
Anyone ever experienced same kinda problem? (and yes my win xp is genuine with the latest updates :)
The computer itself is about one year old.

When I had a firepod this happened to me and reinstalling the drivers seemed to sort it, iirc.
"the latest windows updates" may not be a good thing. I remember one update that completely broke my firewire port. If reinstalling the driver doesn't work, you can try using system restore to reset your machine to a date when the firepod was working fine. After that happened to me I got a separate computer for recording, never connected to the internet, disabled windows update, and I haven't had problems like this since. A dedicated computer for recording is the key to reliability, but I know it's not always an option for everyone.

Hi! Thanks for the answers!
When I lose the sound it just disappears in a second... no errors nor anything... and when I switch the Fp off and back on everything works again.
I dont have an external power cord and i also have downloaded (and installed) the latest drivers for the Fp 10.

I would try using an AC adapter for it. Order one from Presonus or get one from your local dealer. Make sure it's the correct one for your unit. If the polarity is reversed you could fry your unit. That would be a good thing to do regardless of whether it solves the problem or not. I'm thinking that it might solve the issue though. What is the rating of your computers power supply? Actually, it might be a good idea to post your computer's specs altogether.

Now I got one step forward... FP works almost fine. It still every now and then stops for a second (loses the sound). The blue light turns to red for a second also.
Newest problem is that when I use eg. guitar rig 4 there's a disturbing sound on the background always when playing... like when someone's tapping hand on a guitar plug. My comp is 1,64 dual core with 3Gb ram... is that enough? Or is there still a problem with the drivers ?

Well, I'm gonna have to guess that it's the Firewire chipset that's giving you issues. Texas Instruments is always the best bet. I would go to[[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.presonus…"] Presonus' [/]="http://www.presonus…"] Presonus' [/]site and see what they recommend. Well I did the work for you. Click on the link.

When you lose sound, does Windows show any errors? Have you looked at the devices manager to see if any issues have cropped up? IE: an exclaimation mark beside the FP10. Are you using the external power cord? What FireWire chipset do you have?
