Actually, I'll probably keep the Mac after that, too, cuz when you have a PC, you'd better have a Mac around to go on the internet to download what you need to fix the @#%$& PC. Which, by the way, is why I need a damn floppy drive!

If I can physically fit an external USB floppy drive in the drive bay under the DVD ROM inside my G4, is it possible to connect it by USB inside the puter?

You got me dude..I can look into it and I'll ask a buddy o mine about it..but the only way I can see it happening is if you dril a hole thru the case to feed the USB cable out to the port!!!

Well, let's just say that I can sometimes be an overboard perfectionist. I'm not one to settle for less than what I know is possible. If I have an idea, I either follow it through to optimum completion or prove to myself that it can't be done. Hmmm...sounds like an issue I should probably be taking-up with a psychiatrist...hehehe.
BTW, I am indeed a guitarist, and I'm just as "picky" with music. Scary, isn't it? MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA. Yup, I'm 41 years old and have been "playing" guitar since 1964...do the math. It's been a life-long OBSESSION. I also play bass and drums. Unfortunately, I play just enough keyboards to prove that I really suck at it.
While reading your idea of drilling through the case, which I assume was more or less a joke, it gave me an alternate idea. I don't have any firewire devices, so my firewire port is always empty...hmmm...

Ok, when I finished the previous post yesterday, I took a look inside of good old MAX. Why can't PC design be as ingeniouly efficient? I still marvel at the design ... 1 fan cooling the CPU, memory, PCI cards, and harddrives. But air requires "flow", so where is the "exhaust" part of the air flow system?
Anyway, back to the task at-hand...
Another puzzle: I had assumed that the drive bay under the DVD ROM was the same size, but it's not. It only measures 4"x6"x1". This could be a problem. What in the hell does Apple think you can fit in there? I went to the sites of 5 different manufacturers who make "pocket-sized" USB floppy drives, but only 1 had the dimensions listed ... and it's 8" deep ... eeek! So, I have emails out to the rest of them for dimensions. Does anyone know if there's a way to enlarge that damn drive bay besides using a hack saw and lots of frickin duck tape? (JOKE)
The other hurdle is the front panel of that drive bay. Does anyony one know if Apple sells replacement panels, either with a floppy slot, or with a door like the one for the DVD ROM? If not, I'll have to refabricate (mutilate) the existing panel, or leave it open (that would suck).
Oh, and OPUS, the connection dilemma is solved, no problem. I have an empty PCI slot, so I'll just remove the cover, drill a hole through it large enough to accomodate the floppy drive's USB cable and a rubber grommet ... voila!
I AM going to do this...if for no other reason than just to prove that it can be done! I guess I've read my signature too many times...
