hello again!
i need some mixing critique on this track, which is part of an album i'm producing.
please comment the mix in terms of levels, eq'ing, overall sound...
i can't tell if it's transparent or too muddy. i'd like it to be dense but also transparent. having a hard time getting it the way i want it to be. but maybe it's just my problem of not beeing able to decide if it's good the way it is...
here's the track

don't be surprised when you don't understand a word, it's greek.
please tell me what you think about it. i want to get this one right, so i can use it as reference for the other songs.
thanks!

ouzo77, I thought you did a wonderful job! Those vocals sit perfectly and sound just right. I would love to know what you did to get all that beautiful "air" on the vocal? I don't think you should increased the snare drum or decrease the bass drum, don't change anything! A truly superb professional job and I'm sure your client really loves it! Now just get them to do an English version for the rest of us peasants? I don't think you should worry about the job you're doing because it's already 100%. It's punchy, clean and it absolutely rocks beautifully.
Send me some Baklava please, along with some Dunkle Hefe' Wiezen?!
Ms. Remy Ann David

good morning! ;-)
thank you for your replies.
i was kinda frustrated yesterday, cause i'm not really satisfied with the overall sound. i think it lacks some mid-range, but when i boost the mids it sounds kinda crappy...
don't know, maybe i'm just over-worried.
or is this more of a mastering issue?
but since you liked it, it can't be bad!
Are you using any sound replacement plug in for the drums?
there is a sample added to the snare for more punch.

good question... they recorded the vocals in greece and i coudn't be there, unfortunately. so i can't tell you what mic or preamp they used. for the mixing part, i sent it through a compressor plug-in (i think the one that comes with logic) and some eq (also logic) and some reverb as an insert. i also used some overdrive on a send for more bottom and a stereo delay (also send)
well, i'm gonna listen to it with my fresh set of ears (at least for now) maybe i'll find that frequency i'm missing!
interesting mix! baklava and dunkles weizen... gotta try that.
that'll give you some low-end boost!
me again. just wanted to say, that your comments did help a lot
me again.

i did boost the snare a bit, cause it was really way back in comparison to the reference song i used, when i listened to it on my normal stereo.
and i did find those frequencies i was missing (don't ask which ones... but i've found 'em!)
also it gave me the confidence to send it to my client and tell him that this is the best i can get and he loved it. he was really excited, so i'm happy, too!
thanks again!
now i gotta apply those settings to the other 12 songs and adjust them individually. (am i happy it's not all different drums and guitars!!!)

Hi there ouzo77. I think it´s quite good in general, i´d put up the snare some db and take a little bit down the Bdrum, just a little bit. I like the voice is standing well on the mix. The guitars sound good as well. The Bass is good too.
Are you using any sound replacement plug in for the drums? i like the synths at the end and the guitat solo is nice as well. Good job.
