i've heard alot of good stuff about the 280's and i'll prolly get em but im just wondering if there's other ones with a flatter response
i know that you guys would have a better idea than other sources

Do yourself a favor, and go out and give the Sony's a listen. I think they are the MDR series. I need to look at mine to remember correctly. I'll get back to you if I'm wrong.
They were a little more than a hundred, but they are sweet!

i use and like the 280's mostly, but if you want something really sweet (and flat), for very long listening sessions and ultra wearing comfort , check out AKG's 271's yummy cans... (i used them often in studios i worked in) and they are AKG style built quality!!!
i consider getting a pair myself, even for THAT MONEY 280's are great workhorse cans...

I have the AKG 271, but I must say that they are too midrange-heavy. Everything sounds quite fatiguing on them for this reason.

My own personal favourites are Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. Note: NOT the DT 770 M, which sounds very much worse!

The perhaps best thing about these is that they reproduce the lowest bass very convincingly without being muddy in the upper bass. This is unusual for a headphone.

I also own the Sennheiser HD 580, and HD 560, and the AKG K1000.

I have the DT770 Pro's as well, and though I have yet to do any long listening on them, they are quite comfy and sound good. I am not sure of the "M's"? I have the 80 ohm version - there is also either a 250 or 600 ohm version. The 80's should suffice for most of us...
