Hi, I am deciding between a ESI UGM 96 interface and a Line 6 POD GX.
Im a beginer learing to play the guitar, I need the interface so that I can play back to review my practicing> Basic I would like to have a mic and guitar input but Im not able to decide. Also both provide different software?
My budget would be around the 100 dollar region.
Any advice is appreciated for me to make a wise decision.

If you have a guitar amplifier? Then you'll want an interface that can accept a XLR microphone input. But that will blow your $100 on the audio interface not leaving anything for the microphone. You'll need at least $200.
No guitar amplifier? Then you'll want the POD.
So you'll just have to deliver more newspapers until you can afford to record like the Pros and Cons.
Have not always kept my nose clean.

There are differences between the two. The ESI is a two channel interface allowing recording of two different inputs simultaneously. It comes with Cubase LE a very in depth recording software, which can be somewhat daunting to learn depending on your interest in pro recording.
The Line 6 system is a single channel interface with a simpler software program. The Line 6 Pod Farm is a much more in depth guitar simulation software.
One of the drawbacks with both of these units is they will require an adaptor to input a dynamic mic like a SM57 or 58., xlr to 1/4".
The decision is yours one leaning more towards a pro recording path (ESI) the other more guitar oriented (Line6)
