I think the thing is that it all depends on what you are doing. The less actual recording you do, the easier it is to make it sound good. That's not an exaggeration. It's the bottom line. If everything you do is from samples and synths, half of the mix is done for you already. When you start recording amplifiers and acoustic instruments, that's when it starts to get difficult or even problematic. The better your RECORDING chops, the easier your mix will be. Having spent time in multimillion dollar studios, I can tell you that this is the case 100% of the time. Get it right going in and making it sound good coming out will be that much easier.

hue, the second piece makes me think of Steeley Dan meets John McLaughlin i heard "Reelin' in the Years" in there!
g, nice stuff
Thanks. I take that as a large compliment. I'm a fan of John McLaughlin and Steely Dan. Seventies child. One of the best eras in music IMHO.

Holy crap! That's some wicked stuff going on there. Not really my bag but those musicians are really good. And, of course the mix sounds great as well.

Here's something from me.
The first one is an older song I've re-mixed. The second is a newer one, but no vocals yet.
I've recorded the drums in my bands practice room and added a few Slate snare samples.
The rest was recorded at my home studio and mixed completely in the box.

Holy crap! That was just far out man! Great sound you got going. You've got your chops down for sure. It was awesome sounding. All y'all stuff. It's the way it's supposed to sound. Great job. I've got nothing that could compare to that. I'm really getting too old.
57 already? Wow, time flies when you're an engineer.

Really great stuff there. Radio worthy. "It All Comes Down To You"- Every version of that song is radio worthy. I listened to them all and they all sounded fresh. The sign of a great song. It could be country any it would still hold it's own. Hats off to you.

It's Really Fun to just Take a Vocal Track and Push It In completely different directions.
