Spent a frustrating morning at a friends where he'd done the Windows 10 upgrade to discover Cubase and Sibelius were now silent. The Lexicon advice was not to move to Windows 10, but too late. So he's now waiting for a nice red 2i2 to arrive. Annoyingly, he was at first pleased because the Lexicon driver reported just 5.2mS latency - which for him is important as he's concert pianist and latencies of more than 10mS wreck his playing. He got excited with the 5 figure, then discovered that Windows had de-activated it and the other possibilities on his system reported 20mS or more - totally useless to him.

I think there must be quite a few Lexicon users out there (I have one myself in my portable Macbook rig) so Windows 10 isn't exactly hot off the press now. He uses his system for his work, so suddenly being unproductive is a real pain. He uses one of those new microsoft surfaces with score writer (or whatever it's called) on it, transfers those files to Sibelius for printing the band parts, and uses Cubase to produce his music for sale.

You know that you can "roll back" to a previous version of windows, Paul, if he's really set on using the Lexi Alpha.

As to Cubase going silent too, I'd think there would be a W10 update for it, but - it is apparently not working and playing all that well with other current OS's either:

Update - The Focusrite turned up, but is on it's way back. Awful bus noise. Never even got to use it! Driver installed simply and quickly, 48V light lit up. However, plugging in the output to the monitors immediately showed a quite high level of nasty, fuzzy bus type noise - the kind where you can hear it changing as data chugs around the motherboard. The other ones we considered were not quite a direct swap for the Lexicon, so I tried a few other things Asio4all in the latest version says ok with Windows 10. It wasn't. I found a couple of generic Casio drivers that worked, but had 23mS + latency.

I found a Roland device, that has the same ins and outs, so he's got one of those on the way now.

Oddly, Cubase 8 on my system with a 19" Tascam interface works perfectly well on Windows 10. It's a shame Lexicon have simply not looked at sorting out Windows 10 users. My friend needed to go to 10 because of the surface he has - and Sibelius on his old OS wasn't happy with the files the surface produces.

I can be a real PITA to switch to a newer version of Microsoft Windows..... Been there done it recently. Made the switch from my old but trusty Win XP/32 to Win7/64 after my Lexicon IOnix 810FW went down. I had to replace it, and done so with a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.

I spent two and a half weeks of tweaking before it worked properly.......So many hours went to testing as the problems started mostly after one and half hour of use. So after every tweak a test run was needed of aproxematly 2 hours.......

Robin.
