Hey RO'ers, I need some help understanding the basics of compression, limiters, and gates. I have been producing and recording music for my own indie label and I just need some more detailed clarification on the above. When is the best time during the recording process to use limiters and gates? I usually use them on vocals when I am in the mixing process. When is/or what is the best way to use a compressor? I usually use compression after the vocals are done and sometimes I use it on some of the instrument tracks, such as bass, guitars, etc. I am still a newbie to all of this, only having been doing the producing bit for almost a year.
