Note to OPUS:
This, again, is one of those questions that would not be here if the "BBFTBDAWs" feature was in place. PLEASE email me the final info so that I can get the feature imlemented.
I've contacted Newegg, who already stock a lot of the components in the ANUS. I'm sending them a list of all of the components, and they are then going to stock them ALL, so that our members will have "one stop shopping" with them. Nobody will have to deal with the unscrupulous retailers to build an ANUS!

opus is right. I am building this system right now with the p4b533. One word of caution tho, the usb 2.0 drivers ARE NOT on the asus disk. I am going to try tye one from the p4b266 cd, and i will post how it's working out. Here;s what i got so far.

Asus p4b5333e (with built-in RAID, lan and audio)
Intel northwood p4 1.6a
Mushkin 512mb hi-performance DDR266
Maxtor Diamondmax 60 gig HD (for OS)
2 WD 80 gig "Special Edition" hd w/ 8mb buffer (in RAID config)
Millenium G550 dual head video card
Papst 120mm ultra-quiet fan (22db) on order
Papst 60mm ultra-quiet fan (12 db!) on order
Delta 66/omni I/O sound card
Tascam US-428
Compute-aid.com 4u Rackmount case (nice case!)
Enermax 400w p/s (whisper series)

I'm just basically waiting on the fans to get here, then i'm on to ANUS land!!

The ANUS feature is a great idea. And having a one stop shopping experience at Newegg should ease any apprehensions first timers might have.
Wiz1, that looks like a killer setup. As far as the usb2 drivers, since they are part of the new chipset now, maybe they install with the Intel chipset drivers? I'm just guessing...

Look at the bottom of the page...there is a title saying USB 2.0 drivres for XP are here!!!
You have to go to the Windows update page to get them tho...not happy about that as any DAW I make does NOT touch the internet.....I wish you could download the updates without having to hook up your machine to the internet... :p

Just have a friend burn it for you on his non-audio puter ... or, depending on the size, you can go to the public library, use their internet puter, and download onto floppies.

o.k. here's the latest in the continuing saga of the new ANUS. I went to windows update to get the usb 2.0 drivers, but it didn't pop as an update.

So after searching around the update catalog, i finally downloded them. It's in a .cab file. I extracted the files and ran the app, but when i reboot, it says new hardware found, usb controller, but there are no drivers!! In device manager, there is an exclamation point next to the usb controller. When i try to reinstall driver, the wizard can't find it, even when i point it right to the folder! WTF is going on?

BTW Opus, i did try the ones from the p4b266 disc but that didn't work. USB 2.0 is enabled in the BIOS also.

HHEEEEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!! It's about to be hammer time!!!

Yeppers! Thank God!
Are you Windows guys having, yet, another installation problem? Aaaawwwwwww ... lol.

"You cant download those files...you have to have the computer you are updating attached so it can update it"

Yeah, and even with the peecee directly linked-up to MicroSlob things go wrong! Been there, done that, and took comfort in the fact that my GOOD puter is a MAC! I'm sure glad that I don't have to tap-in to "Big Brother" for my Mac updates. I just go to the Apple site, download what I want/need, and then install it myself (a very simple task, that doesn't place crap all over my puter). I can also save a copy of the compressed file on a separate partition in case I ever want/need it again.
I know that we banter back and forth about the Mac/PC thing a lot, and it's a lot of fun. But what I really don't understand, in all seriousness, is why people (even technicians!) persist in the idea of using a peecee as their "good" puter. I mean, it's common knowledge that Macs are far more logical, intuitive, user-friendly, stable, and dependable. So,why are people so easily willing to accept the constant hassles and headaches of using a peecee for serious work?

thanks tommy, but i forgot to mention that i tried that also..

when i boot up, the puter tells me "new hardware found", but i can't direct it to the drivers. it says no info found.

Son of smawg,

When i logged back in and saw i had another reply to this post, i got happy, thinking someone had answered my prayers, only to find out it was you twisting a knife in my back about your stupid mac!!! j/k.

I would get one but sometimes i need to name a file with more than 11 characters... lol...

"ldvoc1take1" doesn't cut it.... especially after a couple forty's..

Can anyone help me?? if not i guess usb 1.1 ain't all that bad.

Wiz1,

I'm finalizing all the parts I need. http:// earlier this week said "(*While Supplies Last!) " for the p4b266 so I started thinking about the p4b533. Today that phrase is missing so maybe they got more in stock.

Questions:
[list]

  • Did you have any luck with the USB 2.0 drivers?
  • Are you having any other difficulties with the p4b533? I.e. should we just get it rather than the p4b266?
  • anonymous Wed, 06/19/2002 - 12:16

I just got a response email from asus regarding the usb drivers. They emailed me a link for the usb 2.0 drivers, that i will try when i get home.

I got xp pro loaded in and system seems to be running very good so far, but i haven't run any benchmark testing yet.

I would say go for the gusto and get the p4b533 because at MWAVE you have a 30 day refund policy. if you don't like it you can always return and get the 266. I really like the fact of the built-in raid!!!

It's cool Tommy i got got no beef with you, but u better watch out for Opus, a 20 lb. salmon OR mackerel would probably hurt!

    Guess what everybody?

    MY USB WOES ARE OVER!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to tech support at ASUS. Emailing me a nice link off the INtel site. Drivers for the 850 mobo. AND THEY WORKED!! no more exclamation after my usb controller!!

Now it's time to end this post and yank this modem out of my ANUS, and start hacking up the registry with Opus's tweak guide!!
