Can anyone give me an opinion on one vs the other. My drum tracking room is also my contol room. Obviously I can't really monitor what's being recorded very well with them banging away right there in the room with me so, I want to get some headphones for mic placement with a lot of outside noise reduction. I just don't know what works better; the noise canceling ones or the isolation ones. Any ideas?

Yup, EX29 [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.extremeh…"]Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones[/]="http://www.extremeh…"]Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones[/] I have two pairs and they work very well. The sound isn't exceptional but you do get used to them and then its okay. They definitely serve the purpose.

I would use noise-canceling phones if I wanted to listen to music on a plane and drown out the background noise.
I would use isolation headphones in a studio for live recording.
I would also use isolation headphones on the plane, but I would never use noise-canceling headphones in the studio.
FWIW, the EX-29s are also the best isolating headphones I've found. Like Chris said, not great-sounding, but decent enough for tracking.
The drummer, and the person closest to the drummer, always gets my two pair.
Isolation, noise canceling works best on static unchanging sound
