Noise canceling vs isolation headphones

Can anyone give me an opinion on one vs the other. My drum tracking room is also my contol room. Obviously I can't really monitor what's being recorded very well with them banging away right there in the room with me so, I want to get some headphones for mic placement with a lot of outside noise reduction. I just don't know what works better; the noise canceling ones or the isolation ones.

isolation headphones

hi, all, I'm thinking about getting some isolation heaphones as I record in one fairly large room. If they really do cut out all external sound and just let you hear the monitor signal that'd be brilliant. But do they really work that well? How much external sound can they cut out? Can you be in a room with loud guitar drums etc and only hear through the desk?

Isolation headphones for home recording?

Hi everyone,

I have been building my own home studio. As such, I'm the main engineer/perfomer here, so I have to track while playing.

Do you guys think isolation headphones could help in setting stuff like mic placement, for example, when recording electric guitars and drums? Or a pair of good closed-back headphones would suffice?

Thanks.
