I have a horrible problem. My home-studio devices consist in an Imac G5, an M-Audio 410 Firewire soundcard and two KRK Rokit 6 Powered monitors. From some mounths the monitors produce a really nasty noise, actually not really a noise but something like a square wave with a constant frequency. At the beginning this sound used to start as soon as the monitor of the computer was going in standby, but now it starts already when I switch on the computer. Working for hours with this saw in the ears is terrible. What do you think about this? does it depends on the computer on the sound card or on the monitors?
Notice that I tried to substitute the 1/4" balanced connectors, but without luck. Also notice that switching on the audio monitors, and not plugging the connectors to the computer, doesn't produce this irritating sound.
I really would appreciate your help.

I would call that a firewire interface, not a sound card. Have you tried trashing pref and/or reloading drivers? Maybe try a really expensive Monster firewire cable. Some people using the M-Box USB interface have complained about this type of noise, referring to it as 'The USB Whine.'
Some have fixed it with a better cable or making sure the cable is not near any other power sources.

When I've gotten this sort of issue through a USB connection before it has been due to shoddy powering of the computer which the USB is hooked up to. Mainly laptop power supplies, but sometimes desktops. If the comp is a laptop, try running it off the battery and see if that works.

I think it was an electric problem. I was plugging the feeders of the computer and of the monitors all together on the same wall outlet. Maybe the single wires were touching each other.
Now I have moved the two feeders of the monitor on another outlet. No disturbances anymore.
