OK everybody, here's your chance to brag or complain about your DAW. We get a lot of questions on this forum pertaining to DAW hardware as to what works and what doesn't so I thought this might be a good starting point for anyone building a DAW.

Please list as much info as you have on your PC or MAC, Soundcard, Software (Cubase, PT, etc.), type of recording (Audio, MIDI etc) and track limits with plugs.

This should give those looking to buy or build a DAW a reference as to what type of performance to expect from a similar machine. So if you love your DAW or hate it and can't wait to upgrade tell us about it.

Here's mine

Main DAW (Audio and Video editing)

AMD 3200+ Socket 939
Gigabyte K8NS Ultra - 939
1 GB Corsair Twin X PC3200 RAM CAS 2
ATI 9600 XT
Maxtor 80 GB PATA HDD (OS and Apps)
Maxtor 120 GB SATA HDD (Audio)
Maxtor 250 GB SATA HDD (Video)
Maxtor 400 GB SATA HDD (Audio and Video Backup)
PLEXTOR 708A DVD/RW
Antec True Power 430 watt PS
Full Tower ATX w/ 5 fans
NEC 19 inch Multisync
Layla 24/96 Audio Card
Adaptec AVC 2010 Video Capture Card
Cubase

Layla 24/96
Alesis AI3

Mobile DAW (Location recording only)

Intel P4 2.4GHz
Asus P4P800S Mobo
1 GB Corsair PC3200 RAM
N'vidia MX440 dual head Video Card
Maxtor 40 GB PATA HDD (OS and Apps)
WD 80 GB SATA HDD (Audio - Removable for copy to main DAW)
PLEXTOR Premium CD/RW
4U ATX Rackmount case

Adding LCD and 1394 to mobile DAW to use with Mackie 1620 for location recording.

I record all audio (rock and blues) and once in a great while a key or horn sample. I will be benching both units soon and will post the results.

OK, Who's Next :D

Hi everybody, this is my rig as of now, about 1 month after I've started recording.

Pentium D 2,8 GHz computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition (the worst version available, I'm looking forward to changing this soon), 1 GB RAM, running Cubase LE3 (I try to keep it as legal as I can, came with hardware).

Yamaha PSR140 (probably the worst keyboard you'll ever hear of...looking at a Yamaha S90ES for soon purchase), plugged with M-Audio Midisport UNO to computer.

Presonus Firebox, with a Shure SM57, used for mic'ing of guitars (steel and nylon string acoustics, and electric guitar amplifier), and flute.

Everything there is for my own needs, being a single songwriter, recording track by track.

Hey, I'm pretty new to this forum, and to digital music production in general ... But I'll be glad to learn from this forum, seeing most of you are probably very experienced.

My Daw:

Emu 0404USB interface, (As I said, I'm a begginer:P)

Intel core 2 Quad q6600 @2.4GHZ (I'm thinking about OverClocking)
2gb ddrII ram, T800UX2GC4-Supertalent
Asus-Nvidia 7800GTX 256MB (Taken from my previous rig)
Asus p5KR MOBO,
Gigabyte poseidon chassis
tuniq tower 120 cooler
500GB RAID 2, 2*WD2500AAKS

I'm learning to use cubase sx 3 at the moment, And don't think that'll change.

I record only guitars through my EMU... (I'm 15, can't afford a mic to record other things), and use midi for the rest. (Bass, drums[EZdrummer], synths[spectrasonics atmosphere] etc.

My guitar recording is mainly through guitar rig 3...

If I get a bass guitar someday, I guess Trilogy will be off the midi list :)

Tried sonar 7 and really didn't favour the inteface, and I find cubase rather intuitive.

I record mainly anything that comes to mind. Though I still haven't tried assembling a full song. I'm making 1 minute long pieces usually, still learning cubase... (Yeah, I'm ridiculously a newbie to recording.)

I use two computers, the old DAW with all the extra programs and a lot of stuff that I never used, and the new DAW

I network all the computers in our home, 5 in total.

****The new DAW****
A Mother of a board  - ASUS M2N-E with (bios-10 upgrade)

The Heart - AMD 64 X2 6000 ~ 4G 800 DDR2

The soul - windows XP PRO 64 EDITION (window should be called a demon)

The Program - SONAR 6 Producer Edition 64 bit mode;

The head ack - MOTU 828 mkll 64 bit install and drivers.

-I think the power sup is a 550 watt
-I went with a large fan in the back to reduce noise (?)
- I use a PV 20 mixer just to jump the inserts to the MOTU

The sends from the MOTU come out to a multi effects processor that seems to be just for mic compression to avoid cliping
Thats a digitech VR vocal harmenizer above it that the sends travels through on its way out of the compressor.

dual networked PCz, digital 7ch amp/reciever, compact player and dual tape recorder with dynamics recording processor.

two Philips speakers and Yamaha keys.
TV monitor connected to computers

My basement studio is 18 x 13 feet but is still crowded as you can see.

ITS A LONG WAY, TO THE TOP, WHEN YOU ROCK AND ROLL OLL OLL

Just built this one two weeks ago

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 Ghz
4GB DDRAM 800mghz
XFX SLI 680i motherboard 1333 front side bus (SLI disabled)
250 Gig Seagate 16mb cache Sata 3gigs a second
Light-on DVD-R/RW Combo drive

Windows Pro x64

Ableton Live 6 and many VSTI plugs

This system is awesome! I just built it two weeks ago. I have yet to have any trouble at all to this point. You'll notice the XFX motherboard. I picked this board even though it was designed for hardcore gamers, I figured it would be great for recording also. I do not use the SLI feature since this is a workstation. The board is also upgradable so if I wanted to maybe get an intel extreme processor or something like that I could. And I still have two more slots for ram for a total of 8gbs of dual channel.

All this can be built with a nice case and power supply for around 700 dollars.

Why would you waste your time listing your components!

No offense, but next time you all are sitting down to list the parts in your daws, just stop and think wtf am i wasting my time for.

I read quite a few since I just order my new system a couple of days ago. I wish this thread had come up sooner so I could have compared systems and prices here and asked folks how happy they were with there choices.
Instead I looked at the sites of folks custom building Daw computers on line and checked there components for various priced systems and picked what seemed pretty high end and got the local shop to build it for $25 bucks since I bought all the parts from them.
