hey,
I have been recording and mixing since 2006 on a AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+ 2.19GHz, 1.50GB of RAM
using Cubase SX 3 and I think it's time for a serious upgrade as my mixes are reaching maximum cpu levels :(
Knowing that Cubase supports multicore core (Quad processing) I chose to go with the Q9550.
I have been searching like crazy for the past few days to find out which would be the most suitable upgrade for me.
This is what I think I will be going for, if anyone has got any recommendations or thinks this is layme setup, let me know.
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor £171.99
- Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3P Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £93.99
- Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXUK)
£71.99
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS) £38.98 X2
- Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX Dual Channel (TWIN2X4096-8500C5) £55.99
Total excluding PC case, fans, graphics card which I have already, DVD Drive = £452.94
The only things I'm not sure are which mobo and what ram (DDR 2 or DDR 3) and what type of fans do i need.

Big fans: more air, slower speed -> less noise. If you read the

If you read the title of the motherboard you selected, you'll answer your own question ;)
Also if your old graphics card is AGP, you need a new one. I can't remember precisely but it could well be AGP.
