I am using a 12 by 24 foot room as a home studio and this room echos like crazy. Every time my guitar players and I jam or record the echo makes it sound like a bunch of jumbled notes. Some advice on what kind of studio foams or other cheap alternatives would be great, thanks.

I don't know what your budget is, but consider this. Build your own "goboes". These are simply sound-controlling isolation "walls" that you can easily move around.Here's how:
Go to Home Depot or any home center.
Purchase those folding, louvered closet doors.
Cover one side with either "rockwool" or fiberglass insulation.The rockwool is easier to deal with.
Cover that absorptive material with cloth-go to a home decorative shop and check out any remnants. Be creative-get your girlfriend, wife (both?!), Mom, whoever,involved in the aesthetic end. Install feet to stabilize.
Experiment with placement. You will be amazed at what you can do with a couple of those puppies scattered around the room.It's cheap, easy, flexible, and effective.
I have a bunch of these now, and I will make a "mini-booth" around an amp(Fender Bandmaster, Marshall JCM, etc.)VERY effective at minimizing "standing waves" and "room flutter".
Plus you can use them as a makeshift vocal booth, isolation wall between players, or to change out of a wet bathing suit!PEACE.
