Hey guys!

I've been trying out the ART ProVLA lately as a tracking tool and as a final limiter. So far, I have to say I've actually been QUITE impressed! I won't say it's as good as say the Manley (DUH!) but for less than $400, it sounds DAMN good.

I've seen from some of your websites out there that a few of you guys use this box and I'm curious to get some of your takes on it. (Primarily as a mastering/leveling tool, though feel free to comment on it as a tracking tool.)

So far, I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping it if for no other reason than to have a different flavor and because I really like it as a tracking tool too!

Also, I'm curious. Has anyone tried any other tubes in it? If so, which ones have you had success with and which ones not so much?

Thanks!

Jeremy

I love the thing. If find it a bit too slow to use as a final limiter, in terms of catching overs. But it is fantastic on sparse mixes that need to be beefed up, and on good, controlled singers that need a little leveling.

In my opinion, there are two dynamics processors that are real steals: the RNC and the VLA. Totally opposite flavors. These units don't pretend to be the ultimate best, but they are both so good and so cheap, there is no excuse for any real studio not having some around. And, they provide project-level studios the chance to own truely first-class, truely useful tools.
