I've just come into some money to upgrade my little home setup and I'm stuck as far as what to upgrade in order to achieve the best bang for the buck. Currently, I have:
PC (2.6Ghz P4, 2Gig memory, XP, 2 120 gig hard drives)
BLUE Baby Bottle Mic
Aardvark Q10
Cubase SX3
Sucky monitors (home theater stuff-Yamaha)
I'm thinking about buying:
Soundelux U99
Great River MP-2NV
Manley EL-OP
Dynaudio BM6A
Now here's the problem: I want to buy better AD/DA's like an Apogee Rosetta 200 w/firewire option but I only have enough for a Lynx 2 card. I could buy a cheaper mic, preamp or compressor, but would it be a big compromise to get the equipment stated above and settle with the Lynx 2? Does anyone notice much of a difference between a Lynx 2 and Rosetta 200? I need some help because I don't know where in my audio chain I should compromise. THe monitors are definitely being upgraded, though...lol. The room is being built so that won't be an issue. Help anyone?

Then comes the mic.
AD/DA is a distant last IMO. It will give you the least amount of improvement.

I think your gear selection really depends on what kind of music you are doing, and what involvement you have in the production (record, mix and master, or just partial?). Are you recording full bands (with drums) or is it just overdubs or midi? Male vocals only, rock music, acoustic music, etc? Additional info will help.

And let's face it..... going on your list of current gear you don't even have a preamp to send through external converters :wink:
