Hey yo,

Use the Selector tool to select (hilight) the audio that you want to bounce. Select bounce to disk and proceed as normal. I do this all the time

Unfortunately bounce to disk in pro tools is always done in real time (i.e. if you select 2 min of program out of 60 it takes 2 min) you know digital performer can use the DAE....

I am just guessing, but is it possible that PT bounces in real time for the sake of outboard effects?

why are you getting errosr at the end of your bounces?
check:
a) HD fragmentation > Norton or similar utilities will help ya;

b) go to PREFERENCES and reduce the maximum rec size to the maximum bounce you will be doing. for example, a 5 minute song, no need to use and make PT record over a "virtual heel" of 90 minutes;

c) check your DAE buffer size;

d)disable any plugs that are not being used;
