I'm new to the digital recording world, and as you know, I'm lost in a sea of information about plugins. I never realized how MANY of them there are.

My question is simple. If you were stuck with a basic DAW, and a hand full of plugins, which ones would you take with you?

Lets put it in two groups. Free and paid. I have no problem with either. There must be both good and bad plugins in both categories.

Maybe these categories:

Compression
Limiting
EQ
Reverb
Effects (one or two)

Most DAW's come with a lot of plugins, but I'm talking about trimming it down to what you could get by with, and the rest would be up to your imagination to get the sound to work.

Thanks
Saddle

GREETINGS!
After discusssing this topic with a fellow mixing engimineer ... it has boiled down to 2 plugs, ear plugs..
ok all jokes aside.
the two happen to be from waves, according to him it is the waves ssl colab channel strip AND the API waves channel strip.

but i would humbly add in my opinion
the PSP vintage warmer and also a free ware plug in
called the 2 rule filter cuz it makes drums sound extra terrestrial( its the only way i could describe it)
