I need to state up front that this style isn't really my thing, so take what I say with a mountain of salt...LOL

This has a kind of Nine Inch Nails vibe to it (And I have nothing against NIN, btw. At the risk of dropping names, which I hate to do, I actually do know Trent - we played the same club circuit in Cleveland back in the 80's when he was in The Exotic Birds, and while I don't love his style, I do respect his innovation in this edgy genre)..

I see a common thread forming in your mixes, Foot. It's a general lack of "weight" or "body". Not like you want this style to be all warm and fuzzy like a Carol King track - LOL - after all, this is very digital sounding in nature with your use of synths and extreme editing on the vox, and it's style and vibe does call for - and support - the use of these edgy textures and techniques... but even if you listen to Reznor's stuff with NIN, for as edgy as he can be, he still takes advantage of the "fullness" of the frequency range.

Your stuff is inherently bright, and while you want the song itself to be somewhat harsh in its presentation and approach, you still need to make it listenable from a fidelity angle.

I'll ask again, as I did with your other track, can you tell us what you used? Your gain-chain, mics, any EQ or Dynamics processing?

I use an audio technica 4040 and sm7b through a great river 1nv and a tascam us-1800 interface. All of my midi sounds are from komplete 8. Absynth, fm8 and massive for synths and pads. Battery for drums. Guitar rig for guitars. Everything is DI. I USD slate trigger on live kicks and snares. I put vtm and vcc on every track including the master bus. I USE waves renaissance eq and cla compressors, ususally the la2a on vocals. I USE slate vbc on the master bus, never more than 3db of reduction. I also put the boz mongoose at the top of the master bus. Usually set around 120 hz. My room is decently treated with rigid fiberglass. I only high pass until the instrument starts losing character btw. I dont know what's making me lose body
