what is studio grade ?

try the new Behringer Unit - it has more grunt
try the Alto unit
they are so cheap that if you do upgrade then not too much is lost and they can always be used as back-up or for overflow situations
Rane for a bit more class - and money
otherwise if you have great money recources then try something like the Avccom or Furman systems

"Studio grade" to me just implies something that wouldn't be out of place in a professional quality studio. Thanks for the tips, the Furmans look sweet. 8-)

I like the Carvin, it does the job and is built pretty well

Behrxngers break. My Behrxnger headphone amp just died in the middle of a major live tracking session two days ago. It worked perfectly, and then just.....stopped in the middle of a take.

So me and the band smashed it with hammers after buying a replacement.

I have a ton of nice stuff, and I had decided to skimp on the headphone amp. Now it's cost me more than if I'd gotten the good stuff in the first place. I am an idiot, and I strongly advise you not to follow my example. This company's products break. Don't buy it.

I've always liked Carvin's top line of gear but for some reason you just don't see it in the stores up here.

Thats because Carvin is a factory direct company and they also have a few retail showrooms in California.

Once upon a time they used to send stock to Mother's Music up here but I guess that fizzled out. Mother's wasn't selling their stuff right at the time so it's not hard to see why. That was back during the days when Jason Becker and Marty Friedman were endorsing Carvin and they delivered some really cutting edge music on "Go Off", etc. so suddenly everyone wanted a Carvin. But Mother's didn't get behind them so it didn't get any traction.

But all the Carvin gear I tried at the time was definitely much better than the Marshalls I thought. The Carvin stuff was on par with the Mesas and the Laneys. Anyhow I digress. :D

Interesting that they actually did distribute it other than their own stores. Only carvin stuff you see around here is used. I own a Carvin DCM1500 poweramp, the thing is rock solid. Get pretty damn hot, but it hasn't gone out on me once. (for guitar)

Yes I agree, it was odd. Ever since then the only Carvin stuff I've ever seen here is used. It's fairly rare too.
