Anyone know where to get it? I've got a workstation taht came with an Adaptec SCSI card but was acting funny so I wiped the HDD and installed Win89SE. The card shows up on power on self test, but Win98 won't see the card or the 2 SCSI drives attached to it. Anyone who could help, it'd be great!

Do you have IDE drives in your system as well?

Typically, SCSI cards driving Hard Disks are there so that the SCSI drive is the boot drive. For this to happen, there is a driver that loads upon boot of the computer at the DOS level and your BIOS must be configured so that the IDE controllers are not the boot controllers.

It would be difficult for me to comment more not knowing all the little details about your motherbnoard, devices, etc. I'm sure though that if you research Adaptec's site (unless its a proprietary Adaptec card made for another company) that you will find the info you need.

But typeically, for windows to see the SCSI drives, a driver must be resident prior to Windows booting. Other times it is simply the choosing of the wrong driver within Windows:

Go to [="http://ask.adaptec.com/cgi-bin/adaptec_tic.cfg/php/enduser/home.php"]Adaptec Support[/]="http://ask.adaptec…"]Adaptec Support[/], pick a method and you can get tons of info. For instance, go to Find Answers, type in your card number, and a thread like "SCSI drives not listed in Windows"

Heres what the Adaptec site says about this issue, regarding Win Me:

The driver for the AHA-2930CU is not embedded in Windows ME and the operating system likely will not find the AHA-2930CU driver correctly. To remedy this situation, you will need to use the Windows 98 driver from the '7800 Family Manager Set' Ver. 3.03 diskette to install a suitable driver. If you do not have this diskette, it is available at our web site:

[[url=http://="http://www.adaptec…"]SCSI Driver Index[/]="http://www.adaptec…"]SCSI Driver Index[/]

Select the link to the '2930 Family' under the column 'Select a product family' to find the specific driver downloads page to the AHA-2930CU.

To install the driver as Windows ME boots and finds the AHA-2930CU for the first time:

1. Windows ME should prompt you with a 'yes' and 'no' question to either let it 'search for the best driver' or 'select the hardware from list.' Select the option to let Windows ME search for the host adapter.

2. When you come to section where you can specify where you would like Windows to search, deselect all of the options except 'specify a location' and in the text box type "a:win9x." At this point insert the '7800 Family Manager Set' driver diskette for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT (or one created from the'7800 Family Manager Set' Vera. 3.03 download) into your floppy drive.

3. Select the "next" button and Windows ME should find the listing for the AHA-2930CU. Proceed through the installation process to finish installing the driver for your host adapter.

To install the driver in Windows ME after it has been detected (and no driver was installed):

1. Go from the Start menu up to Settings, then over to Control Panel. In the Control Panel open the System settings and then go to the Device Manager tab.

2. In the Device Manager listing look for either an 'unknown' or 'other' device listing (usually represented with a question mark icon). Branch down the category if it's there. It often times will list a generic 'PCI SCSI bus controller.' Open this listing or highlight it and select the 'Properties' button.

3. In the Properties of the PCI SCSI bus controller select the button 'reinstall driver' under the General tab.

4.. Windows ME should prompt you with a 'yes' and 'no' question to either let it 'search for the best driver' or 'select the hardware from list.' Choose the option 'I want to select the hardware from a list' and then choose "next.'

2. Under Hardware Types choose the option 'SCSI Controllers' and then select the 'next' button.

3. In the next menu you should see a 'have disk' button at the bottom of the Window. Choose this and you should be prompted to 'copy the manufacturer's files from' followed by the floppy drive letter.

4. In the text box after the floppy drive letter type "a:win9x" and then select the 'ok' button.

5. Windows ME should display the models found on the Family Manager Set driver diskette. Choose the 'AHA-2930CU' model listing and proceed to finish the installation process.
