I want to build a rack mount PC to bring to gigs with me to record about 12 to 16 tracks at once, then I will take it home and do all the mixing at my how DAW, So the portable one just needs to be able to record and not use plugins or anything like that. What is a good system with the minimum specs to acompolish this, part #'s would be great,
thanks
by the way I have a MOTU 828 with a AI-3 analog to ADAT converter for my 16 tracks, using sonar.

12 to 16 tracks at once is not much to worry about...any P4 or Athlon XP system will do..MOTU hardware is very finicky about what chipset it utilizes so I would stay with Intel on that one.
You can get yourself a 400Mhz system for less money and still be able to do what you need.
Look for an Asus P4B266 board and get yourself a P4 1.6a if available. Great system that will do everything you will want it to.
Also get yourself a Western Digital 40GB JB Model OS drive and an 80 or 120GB WD JB model drive for your audio data and you'll be a rolling in no time at all.
