i'm lookin to get a MIDI controller, to learn to play and record with. i'm going for cheap here, but something that's reliable. i'll prob start out using it to add a little something to my music, and then eventually learn to actually play.
m-audio is a well known brand, i dont know if they are any good though. i was thinkin about getting the 61-key w/ knobs and sliders instead of the semi-weighted key model w/ any knobs sliders.

i was thinkin for what i want to do, having sliders and knobs will be good for real time control? are there any other controllers i should take a look at?

I think the one you've got picked out will work just fine. There are lots out there and they all pretty much do the same thing: Korg, Edirol, CME.
Personally I don't like weighted or semi-weighted keys. I also don't like the little 25 key controllers. I like two handed play and need at least 5 octaves (61 keys).
Some have pads which are promoted as making recording drums a bit more easier. If you think you would like that, it may be something to look into.
As for the sliders and knobs. I mostly use them for controlling parameters in VSTs or external synths. They are indeed handy but do require a bit of setup sometimes.
