Just checking to see if anyone knew about any books on making preamps from scratch. I have never messed with electronics at all, but I think it would be a good learning experience. In addition, it seems that it would be pretty cool to have something that you made yourself that can actually be used to record with. I am not interested in making a preamp with compression/eq etc..., just want to make a preamp for microphones.

I am biased.

Joe and I have comunicated many times over the net and for the past two years I have gone to visit him at his home while in QLD visiting my parents for Christmas.

Joe is a very smart fellow and his JLM equipment is well built and well thought out.

The JLM99v can be used as the basis for a few projects and Joe has a main PCB you can purchase will all documents needed to complete the project.
He can also help to fit a JLM99v op-amp to an API 312 circuit if you like.

For me to tell you it sounds good, which it does :)
... just wouldn't be right as I am so biased.

A search of the net will find many advocates of JLM gear.

Forrsell and Hardy opamps are also excellent choices for your project.
Fred and John are also very smart fellows.
