This will probably end up being long winded.

I had a band come to me last weekend that is just awesome and has a fan base! Great gear, good attitudes, awesome musicians, and really good music. They have studio time booked at one of the big name studios around here, and they came to me to record a "pre-production" of one of their tunes. It was a new song and they wanted to be able to listen to it over and over to get the song just right before dropping massive amounts of money at the big studio. They were really happy with what I did and said they now want to come back to me to record "for real" in a few months after they get a few more songs written.

I was bouncing around ideas and I thought that I should adverstise "pre-production" demo packages for those that want to bring their music to big studios, but want the bugs worked out first. Here are my ideas behind this:

1. I can get bigger name acts in my place without the added pressure of this being the product that will go in front of their fan base and labels.
2. I can charge block rates to make the band feel like they are getting something for nothing and not have to watch the clock. I'd be garaunteed that amount.
3. I'd have that act on my client list which would start to build up my credibility locally.
4. I'd probably be saving them money because they'd already have an idea of what they want before they walk in the door of the big studio.
5. The engineer at the big studio could take a deep breath because for once the band will most likely be on the same page as each other with an at least similar vision of the final product.

The list goes on and it makes sense in my head. .what do you guys think? I'm still trying to get my feet wet in all of this so hearing thoughts would really be great.
