i'm in the market for an external hard drive to track with using my powerbook g4 867 w/640mb ram, logic audio and a tbd interface.
so far, it seems i need a firewire enclosure with the oxford 911 chipset and an ide drive running at 7200 with an 8mb buffer and fast seek times. does the size of the drive have any factor? i'd like to buy as large as i can afford but am not sure if it will affect daw performance.
lastly, any advice on certain enclosures and brands?

Generally speaking, a larger hard drive will give you better performance, because the actual locations where it reads and writes data are spaced closer together, which means it can access them more quickly.
But this really won't matter much, as your bottleneck would be the firewire interface. One area in which drive speed will benefit you is in average access time, and latency.
I don't think your Mac has firewire800 (1394b, Oxford 922) but that would be much better than firewire400 (1394a, oxford 911). From what they say, FW800 is faster than the IDE interface, which means no more bottleneck.
