Basically I have a dilemma of where I just got a new laptop which does not have a firewire input but rather an ExpressCard 54 slot as well as USB 2.0 (obviously). I have a Firepod which is Firewire based. Getting an adapter to connect the Firewire based Firepod to my 54 mm laptop cardslot will cost me roughly 80 some dollars, and getting a new, smaller USB based recording device will cost me around $130 or so.

So I think I know that i should stick with the Firewire and get the converter adapter, but I just wanted to make sure from all of you good people that that is the right decision to make here. thanks

Express Card is superior to the older Card Bus. Get a 1394 adapter. I run my Fireface off of a Siig 1394a/1394b combo card. I also have a Nitro similarly configured. Both work fine on either the a or b ports.

Most of these do not pass power as a protection for both the card and the motherboard. External power for your devices will be required.
