Bass -It's interesting how widely this varies from country to country (Check out Massive Attacks "Mezzanine" and Madonna's "music" for UK bass fetishists), and also hugely from genre to genre. Lots of rock music is pretty darn weaselly in the low end these days compared to dance-orientated and even some old vinyl cuts (which I know had a technical limitations of its own..so that can't be an excuse for not loading it on)..I like low end and wouldn't mind hearing it..

Mastering gurus..any opinions ?

You're right, The bass is the one place I always end up going to in a mastering job. It's the one spot where it only takes a few db in the wrong place and you have muck. Rock tends to emphasize the guits and so the bass can just be present and not hyped to the very edge. Thats why I tend to shy away from mastering Hip hop or rap, I can get it to sound good but the client wants it over the edge,And I don't listen to enough of it to wanna go there. They all come in with tons of bottom and the only way to clean it up is start cuttin and they freak..Best
