See, I'm trying to mix a song of mine here with audition, I only used an acoustic guitar and a condenser mic as well. But the thing is, my vocals really sounds crappy. And I really do want to learn the mixing stuffs and of course I've been playing around with ozone and other plugins. But I really don't know what the "hz" thing means i see on the compressor, eq, etc. What I want to know is, what part in my song should I really adjust in these plugins and why? What does it really do? Thanks guys..

Well uhm, I only use fl studio in creating my music. But for this one, I tried to record the acoustic guitar using the mic and then I added some vocals on it. And I am not using any interface for the tracking. Also I'm just using my laptop. Do you mean on what I'm listening with is what monitor or speakers I'm using? I use several ones, like my earphones, headphones, altec speakers, and a bigger sound system. I think I'm off to read some stuffs in a few days on mixing. Can you suggest one? Is Roey Izhaki's "Mixing Audio concepts, practices and tools" any good? Thanks for the reply bro.

First of all, buy an interface. That will usually include some sort of software. Presonus interfaces come with a lite version of Studio One. Yamaha interfaces come with Cubase. That way you're not stealing any software. First place to read is the manual. Then you can try these:

Excellent books. Especially for someone who's got a question like "what is Hz" kind of important when you're dealing with sound. Your interface is really important tho. How did you record these vocals? What mic did you use? Was the room acoustically treated? You're mix is only going to sound as good as you recorded it, so if you start with a crappy source, you're going end up with a crappy end product.

Can you give a little more detail on your setup. Is everything legit? I mean that in the literal sense. What interface? What's your computer like? What are you listening with? Have you considered doing some reading? The Hz thing is kind of important. If you don't know what that is, you need to read a book or two. I'm all for lending a helping hand but I don't get paid to teach.
