I'm currently at a crossroads with my gear! I've been running a small production studio (one room job!) and will be renovating to a decent sized control room and a nice live room:biggrin:
My current setup is a Quad Core PC (2.4Ghz, 4GB Ram & Windows XP_SP3) with two DAW setups in place: I have a RME Hammerfall/Nuendo HSDP9652 PCI Card (24-channel i/o via ADAT/SMUX) being used with Cubase v4 and I have a DIGI 003 with Pro Tools 8 and Focusrite OctPre (mainly for drums).
I really enjoy working on either setup but either (mostly pro tools!) has its shortfalls.
After renovation I'd like to have my new setup consisting of a MAC Pro (Quad Core or 2xQuad Core), Pro Tools 8 with Digi 003 kept the same but I'd like to get the MOTU 24 i/o to be used in conjunction with either Logic and/or Cubase. Mostly I'd like to start mixing OTB again with a nice mixer utilizing its Preamps/EQ and I'd like to connect some of my already accumulated outboard gear in reverbs, compressors, etc.
I thought of getting the TOFT ATB24 so I can record comfortably with many inputs and FX routing but I'd like to use it as a summing mixer to then do the final recording from the TOFT's master out.
Please could you give me any advice on:
1) The Gear itself in reviews, opinions, etc.
2) How to connect things properly, e.g. Toft to DAW, FX to Toft, Summing Mixer, etc.
3) General opinions & suggestions

Generally the work I do is album pre-production and band recordings with full show & concert band arrangements to be scored and generated. On average the track count is for full rhythm section with lead & backing vocals and sometimes a horn section & general sound design. So an average track count of 25-30 individual tracks. I often will group and re-route to a stereo submix in the DAW...

In order to make any reasonable suggestion, we first need to know how many tracks you have on average per project. That track count needs to be equal to your digital I/O in order to mix OTB unless you intend to hybrid mix-meaning you would likely only be analog summing stems/subgroups/etc instead of individual tracks.
