So basically me and my friends decided to set up a little recording studio in our rooms. Our budget is about 1000$ Our primary use will be rapping / Singing, No instruments. What would you guys suggest us purchasing excluding the PC, and mixing / recording program.

I would get an MXL mic set. The MXL 990/991 set is roughly $60, you will need phantom power for it though. You'd need a USB or firewire input. I use a Tascam US800 with 6 inputs. I got mine for $88 from guitar center on sale but now they are $250. But if you are just doing vocals, MAudio came out with some nice 2 channel inputs. I would get packing blankets and line a corner of your room to sing/rap into and a pop shield.
I'm sure some other members will have WAY better ideas.

- I'm looking to get a tube preamp, the 144 does not need separate power but it does need a nice preamp to boost the signal -
