I have a PreSonus firepod and i'm using Cubase LE. I was wondering what my options are for a mixing board and I how i acutally hook up the mixing board? I know i don't want just an 8 track mixing board. .maybe something around 18.

You can do this quite easily, but you will need a LOT of thought put into it before investing a penny....

I use a FP...a replacement for a digital mixing board and some RME cards...both in studio and live remotes....As of right now, I use two of the internal preamps, 2 OSA Cs, 3 pres from an Octopre, and a older and somewhat modified Envoice...

I tried the Cubase LE...didn't even come close to Samplitude, but that's a different thread...anyway, I use a small line mixer in the cue system: channels 1/2 are connected to the "cue out" on the Firepod; channels 3/4 are connected to FP 7/8, which is fed from an aux/cue mix I set up in Samplitude...I've got a reverb patched into the line mixer in case any talent wants reverb in their cans...then I run my talkback mic through the line mixer's channel 8...

The stereo feed is then sent to the tracking rooms, and all monitoring comes from tape playback (the mix knob on the front set all the way to the right)....

If you need more inputs, you could consider an 8 bus board of some sort...submixing on the way in is the way we USED to do it when tracks were hardware limited....but it can be a pain in the rear to have to repatch all your mic ins at the board...

So, what I am wanting to do, is as soon as Presonus releases the drivers allowing 2 Firepods to run together, get hold of a mixer for stems mixing....until then, you are pretty limited to 10 ins (8 line/mic and 2 SPDIF from an Apogee MiniMe or similar) and 8 realistic outs....

Hope this helps....

Its not technically BS...but I think its a case of marketing releasing information before tech was ready...

I confirmed this with Presonus tech support....the next version of FP drivers will have this ability, but as of now, no...

And don't ask 'em when the new release will be out - tech does NOT know...Their advice to me was to periodically check the Presonus home page and check the 'drivers' tab to see if the new version is out yet...

Weird.
