I don't know if this is widely known and I'm just slow to the party, or if this is really that new, but Lynx has released two new stand-alone converter boxes. If they do for stand-alones what they did for "in-the-box" conversion - this is bound to be exciting. What's really excellent is the price - under 2k for 8 channels AD/DA with 192 sampling and software controllable (with card options for any type of input/output) and under $3k for the 16 channel version.

Fletcher or Kurt, if you get a chance to do a write up on these, I know I'll be REAL interested!

Thanks,

J...

Damnit. I never get to go to the good shows. It's always "no honey, we have to make the house payment!" or "no dear, I don't want you hooking up with that drag queen prostitute again..." Oh, wait, I guess that's too much insight into my personal life. ;-)

I spent 4 days looking at them at AES.... (the booth I was working at was right next to Lynx). They are very cool looking boxes and I personally can't wait to try them. They seem to have thought of everything in the design. Judging by the quality of their cards, I'm sure the sound will be quite good.

Stand alone operation, IR port for wireless control via laptop or PDA, Competitive price, easy interface with their AES-16 card... There is also a slot for cards that are in development to expand the functionality- firewire (400 and 800) are among the formats being discussed.
