Well, I took the plunge- I decided on two systems- a P4 system for the main studio computer, and a new mobo and rack case for my Celeron 700 to take out for 8 track live stuff. Here's what I ended up with:

Big system-
ASUS P4T-E
P4 1.6A
512meg RDRAM
Maxtor 20G & 60G 7200 ATA drives
Matrox G450
PLEXTOR 12/10/32 CD-RW
Sony 52x CDROM
21" Trinitron
Big Entech with a bunch of fans (this is going in a closet)

Live system-
Asus TUSL-2
Celeron 700 (eventually a PIII 1G)
512meg PC100
Little Quantum I already have
40G Maxtor 7200
Yamaha 8x8x32 CD-RW
15" flat screen
Mwave 4U rack case (thanks, Opus!)

Both systems will run Windows 2000/SP2, and probably RME cards. Nuendo on the small computer, Nuendo and Wavelab on the larger.

I had one drive, the ram, processor, and the Yamaha burner already, and this whole escapade has come in at $2080 total- under budget is good!

I will get everything in the next week, and I'll let everyone know how it all comes together.

Nice indeed...
Couple of things tho..remember what Knightfly said about the 850 chipset..there's a 100MB data transfer dropout issue...
Also the Asus Tusl2 board with the 815 chipset...make sure you load the INF drivers for it so Win2k can see it properly...
I'm thinking that the Asus P4B266 may be the way to go!
Otherwise nice deals on the equipment and you're welcome about the Mwave reccomendation!!

Well, I thought about the P4B266 for the smaller computer, but I already have half a gig of PC100 ram, and the tusl2 seemed to be a good way to conserve parts. I actually don't remember what the specifics of the 100mb problem was, I need to go back and look.
