I want to record my own samples via microphone. Onto an electribe or an akai. What else is out there? I need something portable. Good quality. Modules with envelope and other tweaks or effects, a pluss. Sequencing isn't necesarry, as long as I can move the data. WHat else is out there?

if you use it for plain sampling (recording) and do all the aftermath on another devise, like cutting, sequencing, etc. then you are defenetely better of with a portable dat or minidisc, more convinient storage and easier handling for the buck, apart that most samplers are not battery powered, and big 'n' bulky....
