I find that my 'favorite' chain is the one that works the best for the track at hand.

Vocals (on this next project) U87>ADL600>HD24. If the singer works the mic right (and he does) then I wont compress until mix.

Bass SWR InterStellar Overdrive pre and DI or Tech21 Bass Driver DI and 2-10 cabinet with old Ampeg B15 head>ATM25>Symetrix 525>HD24.

Guitar Acoustic SM81>Art MPA>HD24 or SM81>TrueSystems P2>HD24 or depends on the track....

Guitar Electric Amp= Fender Blues Jr or Gibson GoldTone or Fender Princeton Reverb or maybe even a POD(YIKES!!!!)

Amp> SM57/ADK A51/ATM25/ATM63/Kel HM1>DBX 904>dbx 903>HD24.

Its all about whats working at the moment.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for a great reply. My music is a bit diffrent form yours, So I am concerned about Vocals & Guitars only.

I track vocals with
Neumann TLM193>Focusrite compounder(2:1)
& in mixing
Compress with UAD-1 Plugins(1176& LA2A)>SoundCraft Ghost EQ.
For Guitars
AKG 414>9K mic pre(DIY)>no Compressor
in mixing
UAD-1 Plugins (LA2A)>SoundCraft Ghost EQ.
I want to hear your Vocals tracks Raw & Processed.
Can you send me these vocal track when you finished your project?
Thanks once again
Best Regards
Dinesh

The compressor I am using is the Universal Audio 1176 (eleven seventy six, not one one seven six or any of that non-sense :oP

I know it sounds crazy but this 400 dollar mic has been giveing me some of the best vocal sounds I have ever gotten. Just for kicks we through up the TLM 193 for this singer and it could not hold a candle to the Vienna. This particular mic did dive bomb out of its shock mount and head butt the floor, after that the original owner said it did sound different, but krikey if all you have to do is drop the thing to get great vocals, ADK needs to start doing it.

Dave,

Have you ever paired on a guitar cab, a 57 and an R-121. Again bliss. Gotta watch your room though cause the back end of the royer tends to pick up some extra junk, throw up a baffle if it starts to bother you. But anyways, the 57 on the edge of the dust cover and the cone, and the royer covering from the outer edge of the cone in.

mix em together and bamo great guitar sound with out slippermans longwindedness. I have been running the royer down 2-6 db from the 57 seems any closer and the meat becomes mush.

anywho food for thought

damn it Remy your are infecting us all ;o)
