I am about to embark on my next set of recording sessions and I'm wondering what has and hasn't worked for people.

Previously, I recorded my Pod 2.0 directly into my 003 rack and got a good solid guitar sound by using Compression, EQ, and multi-tracking.

I have since added a PreSonus Eureka channel strip and RP 1000 to my collection and I have a Radial DI box. Therefore, my options have become increasingly complex.

What combination of these devices/signal chains do you think would set me up for the best sound quality? Keep in mind I can always run the DI box to my B-52 amp and use the mic'ed signal as well...

*please, no "do whatever sounds best" replies*

Because none of the people who might respond to this post are going to be in the room with you using this particular set of gear, it would be impossible to give a complete opinion of what to expect. Playing style, conditions in the room, personal sound quality, mic placement...all these things will make a huge difference if even one aspect is changed in any small way. You state you have gotten decent solid guitar sounds before, and now have added to this. Should be a no-brainer.

I will say that the gear you are using wont hinder your ability to achieve quality results, but experimentation with all aspects of capturing a sound is the only way to truly know what to expect. I own a Eureka and its a nice piece. I dont use it on electric guitars but it works well for certain mics on vocals and some drum tracks and acoustic instruments. The compressor is nice. The EQ is okay. The mic pre is good. It wont hurt the sound.

If I was to list what has or hasnt worked for me, personally, in over 30 years of recording it would take a long time and I dont think I can type it all out.

One thing that never works is impatience and short-sightedness. Since you're doing this yourself, you have all the time you need to get it right.

Its a completely different thing when you're on budget, the clock is ticking, and you are starting cold with a sound you've never heard before. Its these times when you rely on a stating point that you've learned over the years and as you go you apply the very thing you didnt want to hear.....you "DO WHATEVER SOUNDS BEST".

You think this is some sort of cop-out or BS answer when its actually the truest thing anyone with any experience will say to you.
