hi all, I've been trying out a slapback echo on some drum tracks I recorded and frustratingly it's "so near so far"
I've got pretty much the full sound off one overhead mic and it's pretty good in a Charlie Watts kind of style (playing and sound)

Would you say that most people program their own drums from scratch in a sequencer or do more people use samples and loops, or a combination of both?

I'm at the beginning of learning drum programming and want to get proficient as quickly as possible...of course.

I am looking for some advice when mixing drums using the 3 mic method regarding eq, grouping and general mixing techniques. I am challanged with getting the drums to have impact in the mix.

Eg. I want a little more air and I get a raging hi hat. I want to have a stronger kick and things get muddy or the bass looses impact.

Hello, its my first time that i am Micing a drum, my mics are:

1 sm58
2 sm57
4 Sennheiser E604
1 Audio-Technica PRO-25

for the first time the tims, kick and snare as a great sound.

I find that all of my drum recordings sound good but when i compare them to professional recordings i find that they are puny and weak sounding. I was wondering what kind of tricks to big professional studios employ to get that huge rock sound.

I'm about to start a recording session of a 3 piece band with Drums, Electric Bass, and steel drums. Anyone have any tips, tricks, or pointers for mic selection or placement on the steel drums? I've never recorded steel drums before and any help would be greatly appreciated.
My microphone choices:
Marshall MXL 2001 (2)
Marshall MXL 603S (2)

I was planning on using an octopre to add 8 chanels to my 002 rig via the optic, and dedicate these mainly to recording drums. The pre has built in compression/limiting and 48v phantom on each chanel. Is this a viable solution and if so what array of mics should I be looking at to cover the job properly?
I will only have about $1500.00 to play with though.
