PARIS and G3
Forums
Hi all-
PARIS is crashing regularly on my G3 (300 mHz). I'm recording and mixing no more than seven or eight 24 bit files, some with lots of edits. I've tried setting the cache and disk I/O in every possible way, reinstalled PARIS (V 2.0) several times to no avail. Any tips? Do I need to soup up my Mac?
Thanks in advance,
Edundefined

Firewire
Forums
Does anyone have any opinions on the implimentation and availability of firewire solutions for PC laptops? Specifically I/O for 1394 DV video, and audio in and out of firewire external hard drives. I'll be running Foundry, Logic Audio, and Pro Tools Free in Win ME on a PIII 700 from HP.

Do I even need outboard compressors?
Forums
now, let me explain. i have a small little get-up that my friends and i make our music with- all tracking goes through my mics through either an ART prochannel or a p.o.s. Alesis studio 32 into a MOTU 1296 (which sounds infinitely better than my original 2408, i have found). We usually track only one or two tracks at a time, save drums (2-8) .

A place where tape IS important!
ART supply stores (and some paint supply stores) sell "Artist's Tape", which looks like standard masking tape, except for 3 important differences:
1. It's pure white.
2. It's smooth.
3. It won't leave a sticky residue.

Triton PCM Cards

I'd be interested to hear how you all are organizing banks, as the PCM cards occupy the C and D banks and blow away the factory settings in the process.

Maybe I should call it "Silk Purse Recording Studio

There are two old sayings in the recording industry: The first is, "You Can't Polish A Turd". The second aying goes along with the first, "You CAN Polish A Turd, But All You End Up With Is A Shiny Turd". That's happened here a number of times, and why it happened might help some of you out.
Two Against Nature?

So...we haven't touched on this...and perhaps it's more for the 'Bar & Grille', but I don't really care.
Does anyone else here think that was just another case of "gee, you hung around this long, let's give you an award" crap?
I dunno...I thought both 'Radiohead' and 'Beck' had far more interesting entries...maybe I'm wrong.
What do you think? And why?
