Recording basic tracks sans-drummer
Forums
I need to record some songs where the drummer may not be around to do the initial tracks. I was thinking that I would bring in the acoustic guitarist (songwriter) and record that with a click track minus the vocal, then add the drums, bass, vocals, etc. at a later date. I was wondering if I will lose some of the feel of the song this way and if this is not recommended.
thanks,

Altec 436b problem
Forums
There's no "Tech Help" forum on this site, but this is the "Gear" forum, so I'll try here. I have several pieces of old Altec tube gear, all of which have been put back into "like new" condition. Unfortunately, the compressor, a 436b, has started distorting no matter how I set the single gain control and no matter what level signal I send into the input.

phase
Forums
What is the quickest way to check phase on a couple of mics (eg. drumset) on a mixer without a phase button? I have made a short mic cable with reverse polarity to put in series one cable at a time. Is there anything that you could quickly plug into the insert on each channel for checking phase? I'm using a Mackie 24*8.
Thanks
Mike

Howdy
Any tips on patchbay layout? Just curious to hear how other folks organize unnormalled patch points and what they commonly prefer to have normalled.

MOTU 2408 and a dbx DDP
Forums
I'm trying to stay all-digital here. So, utilizing the S/PDIF I/O on the DDP and the MOTU 2408, how do I route such a thing?
I'm wanting to use the DDP as a 2-mix compressor.
any thoughts?
thanks,
Michael

True Analog Synthesizers
Forums
Is anyone in here an Analog Modular Synth fan?
I will be buying one soon and have decided on one by Synthesizers.com If you haven't seen them, check them out. They model their modules after Moog's but the prices are way more reasonable.

Improving rousy sounding kick
Forums
It's a Pearl kick, maple shell and a hole in the front head. Sounds like a ruler on a shoe box! Felt reversible beater.
Have tried an ATM25, MD421 inside and a V67 about 2' out in front.
Any ideas on how to make this thing sound like a bass drum?
Thanks
Wayne

Forums
my friend got an otari mx 7800 hundred today and when he got it home it became apparent that a cat had been using the electronics for channel's 7&8 as a toilet. we took it apart and the inside was dry but the outer cover had to be disassembled and cleaned.though the whole smells like piss so what can i use to get rid if the smell which is mostly in the rack. :(

Track Sheets for recording studios
Forums
Need a good track sheet? Here's one I did for our studio. You can probably download it and put your logo in place of the ITR logo if you find it useful.
Track Sheet .pdf file http://itrstudio.co…
It's in pdf format and hopefully, this link is gonna work.
