spider or 1" 8track?
I've decided I need something to fatten up the front end. I have recently updated the place with a FATSO, great pres, and that helps loads. But I still need the huge-yet-tight low end of an analog deck. I just want 8 channels of it, and have been eyeing 1" decks. But the maintenence and upkeep, etc., are what have kept me from doing so sooner. So, along comes a spider.

I am curious about how many of the Pro Tools users out there are seriously contemplating trading up or purchasing for the first time a new PT HD system? Comments?

McCurdy Console
I have a chance to purchase a fully maintained and working 1970's 12 channel McCurdy broadcast console-for very cheap. I know this isn't a Harrison or Neve desk but it was a $30k desk when it came out-will I benefit from any character this desk could have?

Tickety Boo! What is working well in your studio?
OK as a break from "I need this" and "I wish I had that", to be totaly positive - what IS working well in your studio?
I will go first!
To sift through vocal takes on or DAW (PT Mix +) we burn a CDR of:
a) a mono rough mix
b) all the vocal takes
Recording drums with PA
I've read that tool among others record their drums splitting the signal from the snare, kick and toms and sending it through a PA.
Does one need exceptional well sounding speakers to get a good result or will most do? I really like that sound so it'd be fun to try it sometime. :)
what does PA stand for?

Contemplating going to computer
Hi guys! I've had decent success working on a Roland VS840 but need more tracks and just got spoiled in Nashville doing sessions with a producer using a G4 and Logic. For around $1500-2000 what would be a good next step - I'm very comfrotable on computers but reading the posts here, it seems at times like working with them might end up being a money pit.

installing Logic 4.7 in win2000
Could anyone tell if there is a way to install Logic Platinum on a computer running Windows2000 and or XP. Everytime I try to run it, it says unable to install because it needs windows 98 or 95. Does anyone know a way around that?

Hey Harvey, speaker question
Posted this after reading your post in the nearfield post. Like most here I've done most of my mixing on nearfields, but I'm building a new room and I'm struggling with the whole soffit mount speaker thing at the moment.
Basically I'm wondering if you could ramble on a bit about mounting bigger speakers and perhaps recommend some brands I could look into.

PreSonus DigiMAX LT mic preamp
Are they any good? If they are better than the pre's on my Yamaha O1V I'm considering buying them. I know The DigiMAXes are 24 bit, and the O1V are 20 bit, but something tells me that does not necessarely mean they're better...

Roy Haynes
Has anyone else heard of this drummer?
He's played with everyone from Coltrane, Monk, to Chick Corea (early Chick Corea, you know "Now He sings, Now He sobs).
Anyway, I just had to say he's influenced me more than any other drummer. And to this point I ask, what drummer's have influenced you guys the most?
