The Guide to MIDI Orchestration by Paul Gilreath
Forums
Does anyone have any experience with this book? By its description it appears to contain many techniques for getting more realistic results when attempting to simulate a full orchestra with MIDI instruments.
Thanks,
Stuart

Recording Keyboard Bass

How do you go about tightening up keyboard bass or sampled bass guitar? How do you get the mushiness out, and put some punch into it?

Neve EQs
Forums
I'm thinking about upgrading my 1272 to a pair of 1066s. Can someone tell me if the sound of the pres are comparable? And what are the differences between the 1066, 1089, and 1099? Finally, is the EQ that much better than the EQs on my Audix 35102s, or the Speck ASC which everyone is raving about...

analog mixdown decks
Forums
The gear forum has vanished, so I'll try again here. Looking into purchasing a good solid analog mixdown deck in the (relatively) near future. An ATR would be beyond my means or my needs, I believe, and I've already been told solid machines can be found for under $1000, maintenance and setup included. 1/4" 15 ips is fine by me, which makes the pickings pretty easy.

Please make sure someone has an eye on mixtreme forum
Forums
usually response is very fast from SS employees, but lately there are a couple of threads getting real popular, with no attention whatsoever.
Please could we hear your thoughts on these.
Issue one is a host based app, built around the mixtreme cards. You guys would make the best one IMHO, it goes without saying. But it hasnt been made yet, so Im saying it :)

Spring Reverbs?
Forums
The review of the Demeter box in the new Mix got me thinking I'd like to try out a spring reverb for certain things, but don't necessarily want to drop 5-600 bucks on a unit...What are some other spring 'verbs of the past that are worth having a look at?
I remember the Furman sounded pretty good, but it's been years since I've heard one...any good?

Sample-rate conversion
Forums
I posted this on RAP a few weeks back and never got a satisfactory answer. Perhaps one of y'all knows.
I made some digital transfers from DAT to CD (Tascam CD-RW5000).
Unfortunately, the DAT was recorded @48kHz (by someone else), so the
burner had to convert to 44.1. I noticed that when the transfer was
