Well, it has officially started. Probably the last for a while as I'm retired from my "career". But this time I will finish what I started several years ago. I have a full-length record starting next week so the upgrade will be in steps culminating in a total change in the orientation of the room and even furniture.

So, I got a friends daughter to sing with me on this one. She is only 15. She has no concept of harmony, but she is a great raw talent with a pleasing voice. I had to coach her on this one. She has no recording experience, but handled it very well with (apparently) no pressure. It can be nerve-wracking for any vocalist to be "under the microscope"

Hey all, the digital mixer at the studio is getting phased out. We had been using the bus compressor limiter on the board for roughs and some quick mixes that weren't coming back.

I've been using convolution-based reverb more these days, as opposed to the stock verb plugs that come with progs like PT, Sonar, etc.

My convolution "player" is PerfectSpace, which allows me to import many different manufacturer's impulse files.

I thought I'd start this thread regarding mixing and fatigue... and while I wrote this to target newer engineers, it contains decent info for us veterans as well.

I downloaded a 30 day demo version of Studio One this morning.

I wasn't really looking for a new DAW, but I like to know what's out there and how it compares to others I've used.

This is one of several new songs I'm working on for an album
this one is the closest to being done. Just need to add some backing vocals/harmonies on chorus and outro and a final keyboard track.
