I could use a little help with this... I'm about to buy Cubase SL and I want to get the best motherboard for Audio... My CPU is a AMD 1600XP... I've heard that there been some problems with VIA-chipset for example...

Here's something I found interesting... I just picked up my latest complimentary copy of "MIX" from the mail box. (Thank You PRIMEDIA) I started thumbing through it and I spotted (for the first time) an ad for AMD Anthlon. Wow! A chip manufacturer that is actually going for the recording market! Duh!

With all of the P4 hullabaloo that's been on RO for months-on-end, AMD systems have rarely been mentioned. It's late and I'm tired, but I've been wanting to post this, so I'll be brief.

Should I go with AMD or Intel?

Which Chipset? Seems like Via and SIS are catching up with Intel somewhat?

My old K6III 450/Mhz has given up its ghost. So I'm rebuilding with a DAW in mind. This is just for home recording projects at the moment. So the machine will run other stuff too (games, Office...) I'm looking at the new AMD chipset KT266A with an AthlonXP 1500 or 1800 processor. Guitar Center's techie recommended the Delta 44. I don't NEED 4 channels of audio, but it wouldn't hurt?

It seems that it is pretty much carved in silicon that the VIA Chipsets suck. There were problems with the older chipsets, and now even the latest KT266A chipsets have been reproted to have PCI bandwidth issues. Opus pointed us to this article http://www.tecchannel.de/hardware/817/7.html addressing the issues with the pci bus.

My timimng is always way off. I started buying gear for my new computer a little more than a month ago. I wish I would have seen your "building a daw" topic back then.
