Aphex Aural Exciter Type C - Very Noisy Output!

Member for

Hey guys

First time posting here and hoping someone with some gear-fixing pazazzz can help with my little issue.

I bought an Aural Exciter type C off ebay and when I tested it, I got pretty crappy results.

For both channels, when the unit is engaged and the Mix control brought up, the noise floor becomes extremely high, rising as the control is increased. Then I bring up the Drive and the noise floor of course becomes even higher. The Tune control seems to work as it should but as the noise floor is so high, it's hard to tell.

Aphex 204 Aural Exciter vs. BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer

I'm looking at both the Aphex 204 and the BBE 482i to add to my collection. Primary function would be on vocals, but I'd also look into using them in production too. What are the pros/cons of each? Any other ones in the same price range ($200) that are better?

Thanks

Aural Exciter Plugin?

Member for

Hello,

I've heard some GREAT things about the Aphex Aural Exciter. Does anyone know if there is a plugin of this product? I've heard a rumor there is an Arual Exciter plugin, but I have had no luck finding one. If not, is there a plugin that you recommend that gets this job done? I'm currently using Waves LINMB and L2 on my Master track, but its just not quite getting the job done. Suggestions other than the Aural Exciter?

Aural Exciter Plugin Version or Similar Processor?

Hi,
there are tons of really interesting plug-ins but, I can't find anything similar to Aural Exciter or some Harmonic Enhancers. Actually there is a multi band Harmonic Enhancer in Ibuilt Izotope Ozone but I'm looking for another one because of some compatibility problems with my 2 processor DAW. Any ideas?

Many thanx

I am looking for a couple of plugins and they may sound contrasting.

1st - looking for a type of aural exciter that will liven up vocals. I've tried the BBE, works pretty well but seems to maybe excite too much. I know eq will probably do the same thing, but to tell the truth, I'm not real good at the parametric eq's, and I can't find a decent graphical (slider) eq. I guess I'm looking for a quick fix (Yeh right)!

2nd - looking for a plug that softens the overal mix. Takes the digital harshness off w/out comprimising the cleanliness. Thanks all!
